Several major festivals are celebrated here with great enthusiasm like- Bihu, Baishagu, Baikho, Rongker, Rajini Gabra, Harni Gabra, Ambubachi Mela. Bihu is one of the important festivals of Assam. It is celebrated 3 times a year. Rongali is celebrated in April, Kongali or Kati Bihu is observed in October and Bhogali or Magh Bihu is celebrated in January. The festival Bihu is the Assamese new year and spring festival. Every year in June Ambubachi festival is celebrated to commemorate the annual menstruation of Goddess Kamakhya. It is celebrated in the famous Kamakhya temple.

What Assam is famous for

The beautiful Assam is famed for Assam tea and Assam silk. It is home to the one-horned Indian rhinoceros, wild water buffalo, tiger and several varieties of Asiatic birds. The state is also famed for as it holds one of the famous sacred Kamakhya Temple, constructed in the 10th century and is settled at a distance of about 7 km from the city of Guwahati. This temple is devoted to Goddess Kamakhya and is one of the important Shaktipeeth of the country.
