The Deeg is an alluring garden town located in the north of Bharatpur. The Deeg garden is housed with ravishing palaces. It is acclaimed for its gardens, palaces, forts, and fountains. It was constructed by Raja Suraj Mal in 1772. History says that in 1721 Badan Singh constructed the Deeg palace but faced attacks soon after by the invaders. Raja Badan Singh's son Suraj Mal then built Citadel all around the Palace. Deeg is a must-visit palace in Bharatpur.
Kaman is also named 'Kamaban'. This is situated in the north of Bharatpur. The Kaman / Kamaban is the part of the Brij area where Lord Krishna spent his early years. In the month of Bhadwa as part of Banyatra, a number of Vaishnavas pay a visit here annually. The Kaman town has a temple Chaurasi Khamba which has 84 Pillars. These pillars are important attractions for tourists.
The Band Baretha is the old wildlife reserve that is under the administration of the forest department. The reserve has a beautiful palace that was constructed by Maharaj Kishan Singh. Visitors interested in bird watching must visit this splendid place as they can find more than 200 species of birds.
The Kamra Khas which is a museum situated within the premises of the Bharatpur Palace that was built in different stages by various Maharajas. The Palace is a fine blend of Mughal and Rajput architecture. The museum has a number of craft wares, stone sculptures, and antiques. The ancient scriptures are also present in the museum that portrays the art and culture of Bharatpur. The Palace has many apartments that have patterned floor tiles embellished with elegant design.
Laxman Mandir is devoted to Laxman, son of Raja Dasharatha, and brother of Lord Rama. The mandir has a Rajasthan style of architecture with elegant pink stonework. The main attraction is the carving of flowers and birds on pillars, walls, doorways, ceilings, and arches.
During winters tourists can indulge in bird watching as a number of aquatic birds like cranes, san-piper come to the place. The National park was constructed as a small reservoir in the mid of the 18th century. The park is to the southeast of Bharatpur. The Keoladeo Ghana National park has numerous birds and is the richest bird reserve in the world today.
The Ganga Mandir is one of the elegant Mandir situated in Bharatpur. The Ganga Mandir has the Idol of Ganga Maharaj, which is made from white marble. It was built by Maharaja Balwant Singh in 1845 with the help of donations from the well-to-do inhabitants of the city.
The beautiful Dholpur palace is the possession of the Rajputana kingdom. The dazzling palace makes the visitors awestruck as the exteriors are outstanding. The Palace is made up of sandstone which was quarried locally.
Lohagarh Fort is also named 'Iron Fort'. It was constructed by Maharaja Suraj Mal. The history reveals that the fort has witnessed a number of attacks by British forces who finally captured it. The fort is housed with Kishori Mahal, Kothi Khas, and Moti Mahal. Raja Suraj Mal, to celebrate victories over Mughals and British, built Jawahar Burj and Fateh Burj that again remind us of the velour.
