Virupaksha Temple

Virupaksha temple or Prasanna Virupaksha temple is nestled on the banks of the Tungabhadra river at Hampi. It was constructed in the 7th century and beautifully flaunts its architecture. The temple is abode to one of the forms of Lord Shiva- Lord Virupaksha.

Matanga Hill

Matanga Hill, located just a km from the main bus stand in Hampi. It is renowned as the highest point of Hampi and is the perfect place to see a bird’s eye view of Hampi.

Hospet Junction is the nearest railway station to Hampi at a distance of 13kms. There are regular trains for Hospet from major cities and towns like- Banglore, Hyderabad, and Goa.

Road

There are numerous buses to Hampi from cities like- Bangalore, Mumbai, Pune, and Bellary. NH4 connects Bangalore to Hampi.

Best time to visit

The perfect time to visit Hampi is from October to February as the weather is quite salubrious and very apt for sightseeing. One can even attend the Vijaya Utsav festival that is celebrated in November.

Summer

The months from April to July are the summer months with the temperature ranging between 28 to 37°C. The weather remains hot and dry. Avoid this season but some eager to visit in this season to Hampi then one can attend the Virupaksha Car festival that is celebrated here in March/April.

Monsoon

July till September is witnessed with monsoon season with the temperature ranging between 25 to 33°C. Explore Hampi in this season when the surrounding is covered with lush greenery but avoid getting into the water or avoid the ferry during this season.

Winter

The months from October to March are considered to be the winter months and is the peak season for exploring Hampi. The temperature hovers around 15°C. It is indeed the best time to go on a long cruise on the river Tungabhadra.
